Indian veteran Rohan Bopanna has bowed out of Wimbledon 2024 in the second round. The duo of Bopanna-Matthew Ebden, who won the Australian Open earlier this year in January, lost to the German duo of Hendrik Jebens and Constantin Frantzen in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(7-4).

The second-seeded Indo-Aussie duo couldn’t keep pace with the unseeded pair of Jebens and Frantzen in the men’s doubles match that went on for an hour and 18 minutes on Court 8 at the All England Club in London.

It was a disappointing end for Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, who were labeled as one of the front-runners to clinch the Wimbledon 2024 title. However, they will still be going back with a decent sum of prize money.

The prize money for a pair in the men’s/women’s doubles category who lose in Round 2 at Wimbledon 2024 is €25,000 (approximately INR 26 lakh). This means Rohan Bopanna won €12,500 (approximately INR 13 lakh) after his second-round exit.

With Bopanna's loss, the run of Indian players at Wimbledon 2024 has come to an end. Previously, Sumit Nagal bowed out in the first round of both men’s singles and men’s doubles alongside his Serbian partner, Dusan Lajovic. The fate was the same for Sriram Balaji, who lost in the opening round with his British partner Luke Johnson.

Yuki Bhambri put up a decent showing to reach the second round with his French partner Albano Olivetti, but their journey came to an end as well.

Where will Rohan Bopanna play next?

Rohan Bopanna’s next big event will be the Paris Olympics 2024, where the tennis events are scheduled from July 27 to August 4 at the Stade Roland Garros. World No. 4 Bopanna will partner with No. 67 Sriram Balaji for the clay court tournament.

As part of their preparation, they will be featuring at the ATP tour events on clay at Hamburg and Umag.

This will be Bopanna’s third appearance at the Summer Olympics whereas Balaji will be making his debut.
