WATCH: Stefanos Tsitsipas gets special invite to Genoa vs Roma Serie A clash, shows off his penalty-taking skills before match

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas recently appeared at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium for Genoa FC's home Serie A clash against AS Roma. This comes just a few weeks after the 26-year-old's early first-round exit from the 2024 US Open.

Tsitsipas was supporting of the home team and was also seen gracing the pitch wearing Genoa's home jersey. During his appearance at the stadium, Tsitsipas also tried to show off some of his football skills in-front of a jam-packed crowd.

In a recently surfaced video from the stadium, the Greek tennis player can be seen executing some pretty accurate penalty kicks and one of them also hit the top right corner of the goal.

Even though the match didn't yield a proper result and ended in a 1-1 draw, Tsitsipas received an impressive welcome from the Genoa home crowd. The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Serie A also commented on the presence of the ATP World No. 12 and shared a video of him embracing the crowd at the stadium. It added in the caption:

"Ciao @steftsitsipas"

In an interview, Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed that he has been a die-hard fan of Genoa for a long period. Besides, he also touched upon the incredible passion of the Genoa fans. He said (via DAZN):

"I’m very happy to be here, I’ve been supporting Genoa for such a long time, so I am super grateful for the opportunity. These are some of the nicest, most enthusiastic fans in Italy."

Stefanos Tsitsipas faced World No.86 Thansi Kokkinakis in the first round of the 2024 Flushing Meadows and was the favorite going into the contest. However, the Australian scripted a surprising upset and defeated Tsitsipas in four sets.

Kokkinakis clinched the opening set after winning the tie-break, making a steady start to the match. Tsitsipas made a comeback in the subsequent set and dominated the Australian to win the second set 6-4. However, the Greek player lost the next two sets 3-6, 5-7 to crash out of the tournament.

Stefanos Tsitsipas' concerning form at Grand Slams continued with this early exit at the US Open. His Grand Slam journey in 2024 includes a second round defeat to Emil Ruusuvuori at Wilmbledon and a fourthround defeat to Taylor Fritz at the Australian Open. His best performance in the Grand Slams this season came at Roland Garros where he reached the quarterfinals of the tournament (lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz).
