Carlos Alcaraz's victory over Taylor Fritz at the Miami ATP 1000 tournament propelled him into the semi-finals. The World No. 1 will be eager to defend the title and secure his first-ever Sunshine Double, in the process also retaining his World No. 1 position.

Alcaraz gave his thoughts on the quarterfinal in a post-match interview. He confessed to feeling a twinge of nerves at the outset, given the novelty of facing Fritz for the first time.

"A little bit of nerves at the beginning of the match. It was new for me, playing against him. I knew that I had to play my game, the way that I was playing the previous matches, a high level for me," Carlos Alcaraz told ATPTour.com.

But the 19-year-old went on to state he was happy with how he started the match.

"Of course I'm very happy with the way I started the match, with no mistakes and with a lot of power. It was a key for me to break his serve at the beginning and then [play] my game," he added.

Alcaraz's victory over Fritz was his 10th consecutive win. His overall record for the 2023 season now stands at 18-1.

The 19-year-old is now only two wins away from becoming the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to claim the Sunshine Double. Carlos Alcaraz will go head-to-head with Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner in the Miami Open semi-finals on Friday, March 31.
