John McEnroe has come under fire for his commentary yet again, this time for his work during the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the American, calling for his removal from the broadcast team.

Just weeks after stirring controversy with his commentary during the French Open, McEnroe has found himself the subject of fans' ire once more.

The former World No. 1 drew immense criticism for his contentious remarks about Iga Swiatek "throwing on a little makeup" during the women's final at the claycourt Major and further fueled backlash with his perceived "horrible" commentary during Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev's title clash.

The discontent with the seven-time Grand Slam champion's commentary has only grown, with tennis writer Myles David asserting that it's time for the sport to move on from John McEnroe.

"Tennis has got to move on from McEnroe. It's just time," David posted on X.

Fans concurred with David's suggestion, slamming the American for his "excruciating" and "embarrassing" commentary.

"It's excruciating," one fan responded.
"John McEnroe is coasting on name recognition, which is dwindling. He isn’t familiar with players and relies too much on simplistic tactics (“come into the net more”) and outdated ancestors of tennis from 40 years ago," another fan wrote.
"I grew up watching him etc Johnny Mac needs to go, leave the commentary box for good, its embarrassing," said another.

Other fans, including tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg, criticized the former World No. 1 for talking incessantly during the coverage, expressing disbelief that he is paid for his "nonsense."

"McEnroe talking and talking and talking and then getting startled when he glances at the scoreboard and realizing it’s a break point will always be funny," Rothenberg posted.
"He talks incessantly between points sometimes into the point. I think to hear what he’s thinking about the match interferes with the ebb and flow of the play," another fan chimed in.
"He gets paid for this nonsense," said another.

Given that John McEnroe has often faced backlash for his lack of knowledge about players ranked outside the top 20, fans complained about the 65-year-old commentating on the women's quarterfinal matches at Wimbledon.

"Why are there MEN commentating on the women’s quarterfinals? It always infuriates me. ESPN never has women commentate on men’s matches, but I’ve always gotta suffer through a McEnroe or Fowler on a ladies match," a fan commented.
"McEnroe is torture for any match," one fan wrote.
"His commentary is awful and just lazy," another fan chimed in.

In the lead-up to the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg expressed his appreciation for Sam Querrey demonstrating his commentary skills on social media.

Impressed by the American's commentary for the Queen's Club Championships final, Rothenberg shared his preference for Querrey to be calling matches at Wimbledon instead of John McEnroe. He also criticized ESPN for being extremely "slow" to introduce fresh talent in the commentary booth over veterans.

"Ngl I’m wishing Sam Querrey were calling Wimbledon with how strong his Instagram reel auditions have been. ESPN has been *so* slow to get players from recent generations who actually played against current players in prime booth spots. By my math: one Querrey > two McEnroes," Rothenberg posted.

Meanwhile, during his commentary stint at the grasscourt Major, McEnroe has urged fans to show greater respect for Novak Djokovic amid the controversy over the Serb being booed by the crowd at SW19.
