Gauff made her Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics, representing the United States in women’s singles, where she was eliminated in the third round. She also partnered with Jessica Pegula in doubles, but the duo was knocked out in the second round. In mixed doubles, Gauff teamed up with Taylor Fritz and reached the quarterfinals.

Stephens, on the other hand, has represented the United States at the Olympics once, in 2016, where she exited in the first round at the hands of Eugenie Bouchard.

Sloane Stephens and Coco Gauff are both competing at the 2024 National Bank Open, which kicked off on Tuesday, August 6. Both players are aiming to win the title for the first time in their careers.

This is the 11th time Stephens is participating in the tournament. Her best performance came in 2018, when she reached the final before losing to Simona Halep. Since then, Stephens has not advanced beyond the third round.

At the 2024 edition, Stephens was knocked out in the first round by Greet Minnen. She will continue her pursuit of silverware in the doubles category, partnering with compatriot Taylor Townsend in the first round against Tereza Mihalíková and Olivia Nicholls on Wednesday August 7.

For Gauff, this is her fourth appearance in the tournament. In her previous three appearances, she reached the quarterfinals. However, she achieved success in the doubles category in 2022, when she partnered with Jessica Pegula to win the title. Gauff is the top seed at this year's event and will face China’s Wang Yafan in the second round on Thursday, August 8.
