Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden failed to make their way into the quarterfinals of men’s doubles in the Cincinnati Masters 2024. On Thursday, August 15, the second-seeded Indo-Australian duo lost 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 8-10 to the pair of Arthur Fils and Nicolas Jarry. Bopanna and Ebden would be ruing dropping their serve once and not being able to convert both their break-point opportunities.

They had a win percentage of 85 from their first serves, but it was their second serve and eight double faults that led them down. Bopanna and Ebden forced the match into the decider by winning the tie-break in the second set, but couldn't taste success.

Jarry and Fils are next set to lock horns with the winner of the match between Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, and the duo of Jamie Murray and Ivan Dodig.

Rohan Bopanna returns empty-handed from Paris Olympics

Rohan Bopanna started the year on a tremendous note, winning the Australian Open, becoming the oldest World No. 1, and bagging the prestigious Padma Shri. Bopanna also went on to lift the trophy at the Miami Masters with Matthew Ebden.

But he has not had the best of times since then. Bopanna partnered with N Sriram Balaji in the Paris Olympics 2024 but crashed out in the opening round to the French pair, which included Gael Monfils.

Having won two Grand Slam doubles titles, Bopanna could not bag an Olympic medal in his career. In Rio, he got close to winning bronze with partner Sania Mirza in mixed doubles, but finished fourth.

After his campaign in Paris, Rohan Bopanna retired from Indian tennis, pulling the curtains down on a glorious career for the national team. Bopanna will be looking to make a strong return when he takes part in the US Open, which is scheduled to get underway later this month.
