Andy Murray notched his first straight sets victory since October 2022 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Radu Albot at the Indian Wells Masters. Tennis fans couldn't believe their eyes as the Brit wrapped up the match in an uncharacteristic one hour and 41 minutes.

Andy Murray made it a habit of securing victories from the brink of defeat during the 2023 season. At the Australian Open, the former World No. 1 endured back-to-back five-set battles against Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis. Competing at the Qatar Open next, the Brit saved eight match points en route to the final, with each of his matches going down to the wire.

He had a similar start to his Indian Wells campaign with a comeback victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a three-hour long marathon. However, he turned the tide around against Radu Albot to secure his first straight set victory since October 2022 when he won against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the Gijon Open.

Tennis fans were elated to see the three-time Grand Slam champion prevail in a straightforward manner. One fan pointed out that the prospect of a straight sets win had looked impossible at one point.

"Really thought it was impossible at this point," the fan posted.

Another fan wrote that it was important to appreciate the straight-sets victory as it was an unlikely sight.

"For all the talk of hard fought brutally monstrous 3/4/5/6 hour wins this season, I can safely say that a straights sets Andy Murray win is a sexy sight and we have to appreciate them because we don't get many," the fan wrote.

Andy Murray recounted feeling nervous ahead of his match against Radu Albot, given a last-minute change in opponents. The Brit was originally supposed to face Pablo Carreno Busta.

“I felt very nervous today. I’m not sure exactly why. Obviously I’ve played a lot of tennis coming in, maybe I saw it was an opportunity for me. Maybe wasn’t as well prepared. I’d gone over my strategy and everything with my team to play Carreno Busta and then found out late last night the change of opponent,” Murray said

However, he chose to view the situation as an opportunity given that he had never faced Albot on the ATP tour before.

“We’d not played each other before, and maybe [I] thought it was a bit of an opportunity. Had lots of break points again, wasn’t quite able to get them. It was quite tricky conditions at the beginning, very windy. But I did well in the end to get through,” he added.

Andy Murray will take on compatriot Jack Draper in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters. Draper battled past Dan Evans to book his spot against Murray.
