Jannik Sinner weighed in on the jam-packed 2024 ATP Tour calendar following his Round-of-32 victory at the Shanghai Masters on Sunday (October 6). While the World No. 1 believes that the Davis Cup Finals, which will be played later in November, shouldn't be played after the ATP Finals, he admittedly didn't suffer in terms of his physical conditioning because he played a limited schedule in 2024.

Sinner has enjoyed career-best results this season. The Italian picked up two Major titles, rose to the No. 1 position, and has won 61 of his 67 matches so far. He has also been relatively injury-free and sat out at only two tournaments: the Italian Open (hip injury) and the Paris Olympics (tonsillitis).

Jannik Sinner is now looking for a strong finish to his year. Speaking to the media following his 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2 win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the third round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters, the 23-year-old was asked whether he had been impacted by the lengthy ATP Tour schedule this year, like some of his peers, including Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, and Denis Shapovalov.

Sinner replied in the negative, but he did insist that organizing the Davis Cup Finals right after the ATP Finals wasn't ideal for top players. The Italian iterated:

"Yeah, I mean, we have a lot of tournaments, that's for sure. That what would be ideal is that after the ATP Finals there is no Davis Cup. I think that's for sure one thing we, I would change in the schedule,"

Further, Jannik Sinner told the media in Shanghai:

"The rest we can still choose as a player, no, if I play Beijing or if I play here. I feel like this season we chose the right tournaments and the right time, and for me it was no problem."

The Italian is a firm favorite to triumph at the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, which will run from November 10 to 17. The World No. 1 will then join defending champions Italy at the Davis Cup Finals on November 19.

During his press conference, Jannik Sinner also seemingly understood the point of view of lower-ranked players suffering from burnout due to the tour schedule. That said, he reiterated that the calendar didn't impact him much in 2024.

"I do understand other players sometimes if, you know, they were 30, 40, 50 in the world, you know, which they have to protect their self a little bit more, then it's a different question or suggestion," Jannik Sinner said. "But, you know, talking for my side, we player can still choose."

Sinner will take on either 16th-seeded Ben Shelton or Spain's Roberto Carballes Baena for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Shanghai Masters later this week.
