Elena Rybakina recently enjoyed a day off in Paris after suffering a quarterfinal exit to Jasmine Paolini at the French Open. Paolini stunned Rybakina 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the last eight contest.

The Kazakh started the tournament strong with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Greet Minnen. She then defeated Arantxa Rus 6-3, 6-4, Elise Mertens 6-4, 6-2, and Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-3 in the subsequent rounds.

Rybakina met Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals with both aiming to reach their first semifinal at the French Open. The Italian reigned supreme following a closely fought two-hour and three-minute encounter.

Rybakina quickly shrugged off the loss with a day out in the French capital. The Kazakh took in the sights in Paris as she posed in front of a scenic view with the Eiffel Tower in the background. She also visited the Arc de Triomphe and enjoyed some French delicacies.

Paolini raced to win the first set 6-2 with two breaks of serve against Rybakina in the quarterfinal at Roland Garros.

In the second set, both shared a couple of breaks amongst them, with the Kazakh getting crucial breaks to win the second set 6-4. They also traded a couple of breaks in the third set before Paolini broke at 4-4 to serve for the match.

Elena Rybakina spoke about her surprise defeat to Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals at the 2024 French Open in the post-match press conference. She stated that it was not a good day at the office.

The Kazakh gave Paolini her flowers, saying that she played aggressively from the get-go. She also said that her legs gave up toward the end.

“Well, yeah, it’s definitely not the greatest day. She played really well. She started much better. She was moving good. I started a bit slow, and she was aggressive from the first ball. I was close, but she won. I think in the end my legs were not there," Rybakina said.

Rybakina added that she had been struggling with health issues in the past weeks. The Kazakh claimed she was happy with her outing in the clay court Slam considering she had been dealing with off-court issues.

“It was bad day. As I was saying, I was struggling a little bit with the health issues past few weeks, so I think it’s just all together. I think it’s pretty good result. Of course, I always want to win, but a lot of tough opponents, a lot of matches, and I think overall it’s been [a] positive French Open for me,” she said.

Elena Rybakina has now shifted her focus to the grass season with Wimbledon on the horizon.
