Emma Raducanu booked her place in the third round of the 2023 BNP Paribas Open with a 7-6(3), 6-2 win over Magda Linette on Saturday (March 11).

Raducanu put in a solid display of tennis to defeat the Pole and mark the first time in her career that she won multiple matches at a WTA 1000 tournament.

In her post-match press conference, the 2021 US Open champion said that she was very pleased to win the match and was happy with how she fought throughout.

"Yeah, I was really pleased to have won today. I was the other day, as well. But as I said, I was so out of it, I didn't really know what was going on," she said.
"But today, yeah, I was so pleased with the way I fought," she added. "Because Magda played, like, really high level. Like some things that were working in the past weren't working today, and I adapted. Yeah, I was, yeah, just very, very pleased with how I fought and dug in."

During the match, Raducanu faced some issues with her right wrist and called in a trainer to treat it. The 20-year-old said that the situation with her wrist was manageable and that she wouldn't delve into it.

"Yeah, I got some treatment in between. It's the same. It's manageable. Still able to win matches at this level. Managing it. Yeah, as to what it is, I'm not going to go into it," she stated.

Haddad Maia has won 10 out of 15 matches so far this season, with semifinal runs at the Abu Dhabi Open and the Adelaide International 2 being her most notable performances.

Raducanu and Haddad Maia will lock horns for the very first time on the tour and the winner of the match could face World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the fourth round. The Pole started her title defense in Indian Wells with a crushing 6-0, 6-1 win over Claire Liu and will next face either 32nd seed Bianca Andreescu or Peyton Stearns.
