How much prize money did Rohan Bopanna get despite losing in the men’s doubles third round at US Open 2024?

Rohan Bopanna failed to make his way into the quarterfinals of the US Open 2024 men’s doubles. On Sunday, September 1, Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden lost in straight sets to Argentina’s Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzales. It took the Argentine pair an hour and six minutes to beat the second seed 6-1, 7-5 on Court 5.

Despite losing the match, Bopanna would get a prize money of $63,000, which is the prize money for the players to have made an exit in the pre-quarters in doubles.

Had the Indian star won, he would have assured himself a prize money of at least $110,000. The men’s doubles competition winner would get a prize of $750,000.

Rohan Bopanna’s campaign in US Open 2024

Bopanna and Ebden started their campaign off at Flushing Meadows on a stupendous note. In the first round, they beat the Dutch pair of Robin Haase and Sander Arends 6-3, 7-5. The Indo-Australian duo beat the Spanish-Argentine pair of Roberto Carballes Baena and Federico Coria.

In the third round, Bopanna and Ebden went in as the favorites, having already won the Australian Open and Miami Open. But they looked lackluster and went down without a fight. Andres and Molteni converted all three break-point chances that they got.

Most importantly, Bopanna and Ebden did not get a single chance to break their opponent’s serve. The Argentine duo served brilliantly with a win percentage of 82 from their first serves, showing their dominance in the match.

Although Bopanna and Ebden made slight improvements in the second set, at no point in the match did they seem to have their noses ahead. Earlier this year, Bopanna became the oldest World No.1, the oldest Grand Slam champion, and the recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri.
