"Going to win a slam in the next year or two" - Rennae Stubbs congratulates Jannik Sinner on ending Taylor Fritz's title defense at Indian Wells 2023

Jannik Sinner defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters, earning praise from former player Rennae Stubbs for his attitude and composure.

In a thrilling quarterfinal match at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Sinner emerged victorious over Fritz, ending the American's dream of defending his title at the event. The Italian took an early lead in the match by breaking Fritz's serve in the first game itself, securing the first set 6-4.

The American fought back strongly in the second set to level the scores as he broke the Italian's serve on set point. The pair traded breaks early in the deciding set before Sinner managed to force a timely break to make the score 5-4 in his favor before serving his way to victory.

Following the match, Rennae Stubbs lauded Sinner's exceptional attitude and unwavering composure in the face of fierce competition. She favored him to win a Grand Slam within the next two years and congratulated his team, especially his coach Darren Cahill, for their success.

Stubbs also complimented the grit with which Fritz attempted to defend his title and praised the overall quality of the match.

Jannik Sinner through to 2nd ATP Masters 1000 semifinal

Jannik Sinner is through to his second ATP Masters 1000 semifinal following his run to the finals at the Miami Open in 2021. Sinner lost the 2021 Miami Open final to Hubert Hurkacz.

Following his win over defending champion Taylor Fritz, the World No. 13 said that he was glad to have found a way to win against the American, who has proven hard to beat at Indian Wells.

"I just tried to play quite aggressively, which I've done. I'm obviously very happy about the performance. Playing against Taylor is never easy. I lost against him two years ago here. He loves the conditions here so I'm very happy that I found a way today," he said in the post-match interview.

Jannik Sinner will take on the winner of the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open.
