Mischa Zverev has provided an update regarding his brother Alexander Zverev's recent injury at Wimbledon. According to him, the German has visited a doctor and might be on the sidelines for an indefinite period, putting his Olympic gold medal defense hopes in peril.

The fourth seed failed to go past the fourth round at SW19 once again this year, blowing a two-sets-to-love lead against 13th-seeded Taylor Fritz to lose 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-3 on Monday (July 8). He had admittedly been suffering from knee niggles after a bad fall during his third-round win over Cameron Norrie last week.

Alexander Zverev also went through an X-ray procedure to find out the extent of his injury. The 27-year-old's physical conditioning is in severe doubt, and going by his elder brother Mischa Zverev's latest update, he might be on the sidelines for the next few weeks.

The 36-year-old disclosed that the World No. 4 had visited another doctor who extracted 40 mm of built-up fluid from the bone marrow in the latter's left knee this week. While the results were yet to come, the former player-turned-pundit asserted that Zverev might miss the 2024 Paris Olympics, which begins later this month.

"Sascha (Alexander Zverev) saw a doctor again. He took 40 milliliters of fluid from his knee. Unfortunately, there is now a suspicion of something worse. Tomorrow he'll see the doctor again at home in Monaco," Mischa Zverev has revealed (via Amazon Prime). "More detailed pictures will then be taken. Maybe it's more than a bone bruise after all. If it's a fracture or a hairline fracture, we'll have to see. But then the Olympics are in danger."

Three years ago, Alexander Zverev made his country proud by going all the way in the men's singles competition at the Tokyo Olympics. The tournament marked the German's first appearance at the quadrennial event and he certainly made the most of it.

Zverev started his campaign at the Games in commanding fashion, beating his first four opponents without dropping a single set en route to the semifinals. He then came from a set and a break down to defeat top seed Novak Djokovic, before securing his first-ever gold medal in the final against Russia's Karen Khachanov.

The then-24-year-old's Tokyo Olympics triumph set the tone for a strong finish to his 2021 season. He won 26 of his next 30 matches while picking up titles at the ATP Finals, the Cincinnati Masters, and the Vienna Open.
