Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula from the USA were defeated by the Czech pair of Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova in the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympics women's doubles event. The duo have drawn sharp criticism from tennis fans on the internet after the loss.

The American duo, seeded first, botched a first-set lead against Muchova and Noskova, who came from behind to win the match 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 to book their place in the quarterfinals.

Gauff and Pegula's exit means the two have blown three medal opportunities in Paris as they exited the singles competition earlier. Pegula lost to Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the second round of the women's singles event.

Gauff went down 7-6(7), 6-2 against Croatia's Donna Vekic in a third-round battle. During the match, the American claimed that she was cheated after a teary debate with the chair umpire and tournament supervisor.

One fan on X targeted Gauff for the poor result, writing:

"Did Coco Gauff cry again and blame the umpire? or did she accept the loss today?"

Another fan suggested the failures in singles affected Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula.

"This why she shouldn’t have flopped in singles, here she is about to leave Tokyo [Paris] without a medal… because we damn sure knew you and Peggy wasn’t doing sh*t," the fan stated.

Here are a few more reactions from X:

"Did she cry again," a fan wrote.
"Jeez the Olympics bottling continues," a fan commented.
"You know, I don’t think they are a good pairing. Gauff needs a better net player and Pegula needs a better server," a fan wrote.
"I think it’s time she reconsidered her partnership with Jess! Individually they are great but something misfires when they play as a team," a fan remarked.

Coco Gauff's last hope for winning a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics lies in the mixed doubles category, for which she has paired up with fellow American Taylor Fritz.

Gauff and Fritz defeated the Argentinian pair of Nadia Podoroska and Maximo Gonzalez 6-1, 6-7(6), 10-5 in the first round of the mixed doubles event to secure the quarterfinals berth. They will next play Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger Aliassime at Roland Garros.

Notably, Fritz has also bowed out of the singles event in Paris with a straight-set loss to Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti bettered Fritz 6-4, 7-5 in the third round of the main draw on Wednesday, July 31.
