Fourth seed Coco Gauff will take on Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals of the Wuhan Open on Saturday (October 12, 2024). This will be the eighth meeting between both players with Gauff leading their head-to-head battle 4-3.

Coco Gauff will feel gutted to have not added to her Grand Slam tally this year. She reached the semifinals in Melbourne and Paris, but couldn't tip the scales in her favor in both matches. The American has still had a remarkable season so far by amassing 50 wins from 65 matches, including title-winning runs in the ASB Classic and the China Open.

Aryna Sabalenka, meanwhile, added two more titles to her Grand Slam tally this season. She dominated the singles competition in the Australian Open and captured her first title at the US Open in New York. She also clinched the Cincinnati Open, where she outclassed Jessica Pegula in the finals, 6-3, 7-5.

Sabalenka entered Wuhan on the back of a quarterfinal exit in Beijing at the hands of Karolina Muchova. She started her campaign with a hard-fought win over Katerina Siniakova in the second round and then outlasted Yulia Putintseva in the third. She then brushed aside Magdalena Frech in straight sets to enter the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2.

Gauff, on the contrary, entered Wuhan on the back of a flawless run in the China Open. She started her campaign by cruising past Viktoriya Tomova and Marta Kostyuk in the first few rounds and then overpowered Magda Linette in the quarterfinals. She defeated the Pole Linette in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.

Sabalenka is making her third appearance in Wuhan this year and has a 100% record at the event so far. She already captured two titles at the WTA 1000 event in 2018 and 2019.

The Wuhan crowd can expect a thrilling contest between two high-quality players on tour in the semifinals. While Gauff has chalked up 12 wins from her last 13 matches, Sabalenka isn't far away with 18 wins to her name in the last 19 matches. The Belarusian has already defeated Gauff this year in the semifinals of the Australian Open and will be hoping to outfox her again in Wuhan.
