Paris Olympics 2024: India's results on July 27 - Hockey team pulls off last-minute victory, Manu Bhaker qualifies for final

The opening day of the Paris Olympics saw the Indian contingent experience a range of emotions, with a mix of thrilling victories and heartbreaking defeats.

India's men's hockey team provided a dramatic end to the day with what turned out to be a nail-biting encounter against New Zealand. Despite falling behind early, the team showcased remarkable determination to set up a comeback. An extremely late goal from Harmanpreet Singh ultimately helped India clinch a 3-2 victory.

In badminton, India's shuttlers also put on an impressive performance in their opening matches. Lakshya Sen delivered a stellar performance, securing a convincing straight-sets win, while the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also triumphed in their match against the French pair of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar.

However, it was a tough outing for Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, who faced the World No. 7 pair from South Korea. Despite a valiant effort, they ultimately went down fighting in their opening encounter of the Paris Olympics 2024.

On the other hand, the shooting events brought a wave of disappointment for the Indian contingent, with almost all the shooters failing to qualify for the finals. However, Manu Bhaker emerged as a beacon of hope. With an incredible performance in the 10m Air Pistol qualifying rounds, Bhaker secured third place, earning her spot in the finals. She is set to compete for a medal on July 28 at 3:30 pm IST.

In boxing, Preeti delivered a dominant performance, convincingly defeating Thi Kim Anh with a 5-0 victory in her round of 32 match, while Indian rower Balraj Panwar narrowly missed out on qualifying through his heats, finishing fourth in his race. Panwar remains in the hunt for a place in the next rounds through the repechage round.
