Day 13 of the Paris Olympics 2024 will be remembered as a historic day for India, marking one of the nation’s best performances in the games so far. Neeraj Chopra won his second Olympic medal while the Indian men's hockey team took home bronze. In addition to the two medals added to the tally, the day witnessed several reasons for celebration for the Indian contingent.

After his gold medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra returned to the Olympic Games and put on another stellar performance. He secured a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw with a massive throw of 89.45 meters, achieved on his second attempt. Although it was his only valid throw in the final, it was enough to place him on the podium once more.

With this silver, Chopra became the first Indian track and field athlete to win back-to-back Olympic medals and also joined an elite group of Indian athletes who have achieved consecutive individual medals at the Olympics. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters, went on to win the gold.

Adding to the day’s success, India’s men’s hockey team secured a back-to-back Olympic medal, winning bronze in a thrilling encounter against Spain. The men in blue displayed grit and determination, narrowly defeating the Spanish side 2-1.

Indian wrestler Aman also put on a show in his matches. Competing in the men’s freestyle wrestling category, Aman defeated Vladimir Egorov 10-0 before overcoming Zelimkhan Abakarov 12-0 in the quarterfinals. Although he fell to Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the semifinals, Aman will have a chance to win a medal and will fight for the bronze medal on August 9.

Meanwhile, on the golf course, Indian stars Diksha Dagar and Aditi Ashok continued their strong showing. Both golfers are currently tied for 14th place, and not far behind the leaders, they remain in contention for a medal.
