Indian hockey star Hardik Singh has left many surprised with a recent revelation. Hardik shared how some fans ignored him and his teammates at the airport only to get pictures with internet personality Dolly Chaiwala. He talked through the incident during an appearance on a podcast.

Hardik disclosed captain Harmanpreet Singh and ace player Mandeep Singh were all present but were not even recognized by the people. The incident comes as a surprise given the recent popularity that the Indian men's hockey team have gained since their bronze medal win at Paris Olympics 2024.

“I saw it with my own eyes, at the airport. Harmanpreet [Singh], I, Mandeep [Singh]; there were five to six of us. Dolly Chaiwala was also there. People were getting themselves clicked with and did not recognize us," said Hardik (Via news18)

Notably, Dolly Chaiwala is a social media personality who gained much attention for his videos with prominent public figures online. Hardik went on to share the reaction of his teammates. He expressed that 'appreciation' is what an athlete craves amidst all the achievements and laurels.

“We started looking at each other (feeling awkward). For an athlete, fame and money is one thing. But, when people are watching you and appreciating you, there is no bigger satisfaction than that for an athlete." Hardik added.

Indian Hockey Team continues sensational run with Asian Champions Trophy triumph

The Indian men's hockey team are probably going through one of their best-ever runs with some brilliant performances in the recent past. They were outstanding in their efforts at the Paris Olympics 2024 where they defeated Spain 2-1 to clinch a consecutive second Olympic bronze.

India then went to the Asian Champions Trophy in China where they put in another incredible effort to retain their title. India dominated the tournament before defeating China 1-0 in the final and clinching the coveted gold.

India will be seen in action next month as they take on Germany in a bilateral series in New Delhi.
