The Indian hockey team is all set for the Paris Olympics 2024, with the hockey events scheduled from July 27 to August 9 at the iconic Stade Yves-du-Manoir. India is the most successful field hockey team in the history of the Summer Olympics, with 12 medals under their belt, which includes eight golds, one silver and three bronze medals.
Defender Harmanpreet Singh will lead the Indian side at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with midfielder Hardik Singh serving as his deputy. It will be the third Olympic appearance for Harmanpreet, who will have goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and midfielder Manpreet Singh, set to play their fourth Olympics, by his side.
They played a key role in India’s quest for a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where they defeated Germany in the third-place match to end a 41-year medal drought in hockey for the nation. Their experience will be a key once again for the Indian side, which has five Olympic debutants.
The Indian hockey team has also included three alternate players (reserves) in the squad in case any player from the main squad is ruled out.
Under the guidance of chief coach Craig Fulton, the Indian hockey team will be eyeing the elusive gold medal. The last time the team secured a gold medal was way back in 1980 at the Moscow Games.
The team looks pretty balanced, with a great mix of experience and youth. India is drawn in Pool B, which includes Argentina, Australia, Belgium, New Zealand, and Ireland.
