The Indian hockey team will look to better their Tokyo bronze-medal finish at the Paris Olympics 2024, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11. Veteran defender and drag-flick specialist, Harmanpreet Singh will lead the side, while midfielder Hardik Singh will be his deputy.
The team comprises other experienced players like goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and midfielder Manpreet Singh, who will be making their fourth Olympic appearance. Meanwhile, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay, Raj Kumar Pal, Abhishek, and Sukhjeet Singh are set to make their debut in the Games.
The Tokyo Olympics saw the Indian hockey team secure a bronze medal after defeating Germany 5-4. This was the country's first medal in the sport after 41 years, since last winning the gold in 1980.
Hockey venue for Paris Olympics 2024
Stade Yves-du-Manoir will be hosting the hockey matches in Paris Olympics 2024. The venue hosted the Olympics back in 1924, where it was the main arena for sports like athletics, cycling, horse riding, gymnastics and tennis.
Two synthetic hockey pitches - one for the main competition and other for training purposes have been prepared for the global event.
