Indian men’s hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh did the unthinkable and helped India make it to the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday (August 4). Sreejesh will be making his last appearance at the Olympics, and he played just like that, giving his all at the post.

India defeated Great Britain in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics 2024. The game was tied 1-1 in regulation time and went into a shootout where India won 4-2 courtesy of some exceptional saves by the legend PR Sreejesh.

Fans couldn’t hold back their excitement and took to social media to heap praises on Sreejesh’s efforts that guided India one step closer to a medal.

A fan hailed Sreejesh’s efforts above Emiliano Martinez, goalkeeper of the Argentina Football team, who helped them clinch the FIFA World Cup 2022 title.

“Emi Martinez is overrated, we believe only in PR Sreejesh,” wrote one user.
“Wasn't fortunate to witness Major Dhyan Chand, wasn't fortunate to witness Balbir Singh Sr.. but was lucky to witness this legend.. Sreejesh our hero, Legend, Ultra legend... Short on words.... We are into the semis,” another user commented.

A user suggested for a statue to be built for PR Sreejesh for his heroics.

“PR SREEJESH. BUILD THE MAN A STATUE!” the fan wrote.

A fan was out of words to hail this iconic performance by Sreejesh. He noted:

“Words are not enough to describe this performance of Sreejesh.”

Another fan compared the Great Wall of China to Sreejesh standing as a wall in front of the post.

“I haven’t seen great wall of china, but I’m sure it looks something like Sreejesh,” one user wrote.

Former Indian hockey Viren Rasquinha player praised the Indian defense and Sreejesh for winning the match despite being a man down.

“With 10 men for 45 minutes. Our defence was God level!!! Sreejesh is God!!!!” wrote Viren.

PR Sreejesh lives up to the name of “The Wall” to help India qualify for the semis

Indian defender Amit Rohidas was sent off in the first quarter after receiving a red card. Thus, India were playing with just 10 men for almost all throughout the match.

However, India managed to take the match to 1-1 despite not having the services of Amit. "The Wall" Sreejesh and the Indian defenders were at their absolute best and made sure they didn’t give any chances to the Great Britain attackers.
