8th August, 2024 might be a historic day in Indian sports because the nation competes for two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics on that day. Vinesh Phogat's gold medal match in the women's wrestling 50 kg category will begin during the early hours of 8th August. Later in the day, Neeraj Chopra will compete in the men's javelin throw final.

Meanwhile, yesterday afternoon brought mixed emotions for Indian fans at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Vinesh Phogat stunned the reigning Olympics champion Yui Susaki in the Round of 16 and then overcame challenges from Oksana Livach and Yusneylys Guzman to become the first Indian woman to qualify for an Olympics wrestling final.

A popular X user reacted to the historic achievement at the Paris Olympics by tweeting:

"Vinesh Phogat is just one step away from becoming India's first female Olympic gold medalist. Chhori gold laavegi."

Another X user labeled Vinesh the queen of Indian wrestling following her hat trick of wins.

"VINESH PHOGAT - THE QUEEN OF INDIAN WRESTLING," he tweeted.

Before Vinesh's dominance, Neeraj Chopra delighted Indian fans with an 89.34m throw on his first attempt during the men's javelin throw qualification round. He will compete in the final tomorrow, and Indian fans will be seated for it.

"WE'RE ALL SEATED TO WATCH NEERAJ CHOPRA IN THE FINAL. 8th August, mark the date!" a popular social media user tweeted after Neeraj's qualification.

"Sometimes sport is cruel"- Indian men's hockey team loss in Paris 2024 Olympics leaves fans heartbroken

While Vinesh Phogat and Neeraj Chopra made Indian sports fans smile yesterday, the country's hockey team suffered a 2-3 loss to Germany in the semifinal. India will now play Spain in the bronze medal match.

Goalkeeper P Sreejesh gave his all in the tournament, but he missed the Olympic gold medal once again. A fan tweeted after the match:

"PR SREEJESH. No Gold medal for the iconic career. He deserves that more than anyone, but sometimes sport is cruel."

Another fan expressed his desire to see the Indian hockey team compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics finals. Perhaps tomorrow's medal opportunities for India can ease some of the heartache from the hockey loss.

"I wanted to see these men in the final. They pushed their limits to be here. Bunch of winners," the user posted on X.

The Paris 2024 Olympics men's hockey bronze medal match will also occur on August 8. India will battle Spain from 5.30pm IST onwards for the medal.
