The Indian men's hockey team clinched their second successive bronze medal by defeating Spain 2-1 at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday, August 8. India captain Harmanpreet Singh scored both goals from penalty corners while Spain managed a lone strike, through a penalty stroke.

The Indian team had broken a 41-year drought of medals in hockey at the last Olympics, in Tokyo, when they took the bronze medal. Now, they have solidified their position as one of the best teams in the world with this success.

Let's take a deeper look into India's performance in the bronze medal match vs Spain by looking at their player ratings.

India's player ratings for bronze medal match vs. Spain

Abhishek - 7/10

India's forwards didn't shine much in the first half but made better efforts in the second. Abhishek couldn't get on the board today but was otherwise good.

Manpreet Singh - 7/10

The former captain once again played a crucial role in his team's midfield and helped the defense.

Hardik Singh - 7.5/10

Hardik returned to his defending duties in this match and performed them effectively. He only once gave away the ball and otherwise was error-free. He also actively participated in some of his team's attacking moves into the opposition's circle.

Sanjay - 8/10

Sanjay was superb as a defender, especially when trying to get the ball out of the pockets. He has emerged as a very dependable defender for India.

Mandeep Singh - 6/10

The attackers from India didn't have the best match as both of India's goals came from penalty corners. Also, there were several opportunities missed. Mandeep made the odd good move forward and pressurized the opposition's full-backs when they were in high press. But more was needed.

Harmanpreet Singh - 7/10

Harmanpreet might have got more points had he not committed a bad foul in the dying minutes of the match, giving away a penalty corner. Also, as the captain, he should have asked his team to hold onto possession rather than giving it away too many times in the last five minutes.

PR Sreejesh - 7.5/10

What a farewell for India's iconic goalkeeper! He ends his career as a double Olympic medalist - a possibility that sometimes seemed distant during his stay with the Indian team. In today's match too, Sreejesh performed his duties brilliantly. A couple of brilliant saves against penalty corners right at the end ensured his team's win.

Sumit - 8/10

Sumit was sensational with his performance today. He showed his brilliant skills in both his team and the opponent's half. His defending was impeccable, and he helped out the midfield by taking the ball forward at times.

Shamsher Singh - 5/10

Shamsher tends to go under the radar often. Maybe, that's the nature of the role he has been given. He did commit a crucial foul at one stage in this match.

Amit Rohidas - 8/10

If anyone needed to know the value of Amit Rohidas, a comparison of this match and India's last will shed light on it. Amit was brilliant as a defender and especially crucial for India as the No. 1 runner against penalty corners. Without him, India may have conceded more goals.

Sukhjeet Singh - 5/10

Sukhjeet Singh missed a couple of great opportunities to score today. In general, the Indian forwards didn't have their best outing. In the first half, they weren't clinical enough inside the circle. Things improved in the second half but chances were not converted.

Jarmanpreet Singh - 7/10

Another day, another good effort by Jarmanpreet. He didn't get to intercept too many overhead passes today but remained a vital part of the Indian defense and their play down the right-hand side flank.

Gurjant Singh - 5/10

Like Shamsher, Gurjant is either playing an invisible role or is not rising to the occasion. Most likely, he is not finding much success at the moment.

Lalit Kumar Upadhyay - 5/10

Lalit wasn't as active in this match as in some of the earlier contests. He also didn't produce the impactful play India needed from their forwards.

Raj Kumar Pal - 7/10

Raj Kumar was very active in India's attacking half and helped out with in the team's attacking maneuvers.

Vivek Sagar Prasad - 7.5/10

Vivek had a memorable tournament and is deservingly now a double Olympic medalist. He was swamped throughout the match and was a dynamic force in the midfield for his team.
