1. Super Kings beat Royal Challengers by four wickets:
A last-ball howler by Rudra Pratap Singh gifted Super Kings a tight four-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here Saturday night.
Chasing a target of 166, Super Kings needed two runs off the last ball. Celebrations broke out immediately as Ravindra Jadeja (38 not out) edged it straight to third-man, but it was only short-lived as Rudra Pratap had overstepped.
2. Fans clash as Wigan reach first FA Cup final:
Wigan Athletic defeated second-tier Millwall 2-0 to reach the FA Cup final for the first time in their history, but the match was marred by fighting between fans of the beaten side.
After Callum McManaman doubled Wigan’s lead 12 minutes from time at a rain-soaked Wembley Stadium, violence broken out in the Millwall seating area behind one of the goals. Millwall said fans who shamed Wembley by fighting will face life bans.
3. Mumbai outclass Pune, go top of the table:
Mumbai Indians moved to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) table with a convincing 41-run victory over the Pune Warriors at the Wankhede Stadium here Saturday.
Electing to bat, Mumbai posted a daunting score of 183 for three with Rohit Sharma (62 not out), Dinesh Karthik (41) and Sachin Tendulkar (44) all chipping in with crucial runs.
4. Late salvo sends Arsenal up to third:
Arsenal scored three times in the last five minutes to beat Norwich City 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium and leap to third place in the Premier League table on Saturday.
Michael Turner’s header looked to have consigned Arsene Wenger’s men to defeat, but Mikel Arteta equalised with an 85th-minute penalty before a Sebastien Bassong own goal and an injury-time strike from Lukas Podolski completed the comeback.
5. Snedeker and Cabrera in tie for Masters lead:
Brandt Snedeker of the United States and Angel Cabrera of Argentina shared the lead at seven-under par 209 after the third round of the Masters on Saturday.
Snedeker opened on four under, two back from 36-hole leader Jason Day of Australia, and he parred the first 12 holes before advancing with three birdies in four holes to get to seven under. Cabrera, the 2009 Masters winner, also picked up three shots on the day, making a birdie at the last to finish, like Snedeker, with a three-under 69.
6. Tiger given two-stroke penalty at Masters:
Tiger Woods was hit with a two-stroke penalty in a dramatic start to the third day of the Masters at Augusta National on Saturday.
The world number one had reached the halfway stage three shots behind leader Australian Jason Day and firmly in contention for a 15th major title and fifth green jacket.
7. Celtics seize seventh playoff seed:
Courtney Lee scored 20 points as the Boston Celtics clinched the seventh playoff seed in the Eastern Conference standings by routing the Orlando Magic 120-88.
Lee was one of seven Boston players to reach double-figures in scoring. Jeff Green and Jordan Crawford had 17 and 16 points, respectively.
8. Euro stars Bayern, Dortmund run riot:
Champions League semi-finalists Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund registered huge wins, hitting 10 goals between them, as they returned to Bundesliga duty in sensational style on Saturday.
German champions Bayern crushed Nuremberg 4-0 at Munich’s Allianz Arena while Dortmund hammered bottom side Greuther Fuerth 6-1.
9. Almagro to face Isner in Houston final:
Top seed Nicolas Almagro, whose 12 previous ATP wins have all come on clay, reached the final of the US Clay Court Championships by routing wildcard Rhyne Williams 6-2, 6-1.
10. Ogier takes charge in Portugal:
Championship leader Sebastien Ogier of France extended his advantage in the Rally of Portugal on Saturdayand will take a 34.8sec lead over Volkswagen teammate Jari-Matti Latvala of Finland into the final day.
