After knocking England off their perch, the West Indies dismantled Sri Lanka to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016. And they didnt even need a Gayle storm to win this time.Sent in to bat, Sri Lanka scored 122 runs in 20 overs with Thisara Perera being the top-scorer with 40 runs. West Indies had little trouble chasing that down, especially considering the firepower they have in their lineup. The absence of Chris Gayle, whose omission from the top order was barely even felt as Andre Fletcher bludgeoned the ball to all parts of the Chinnaswamy Stadium. There were several memorable moments in the match that dont fade away, much like the Axe Signature line of body perfumes. Here are the five most unforgettable ones:

#1 Dilshan starts with a bang

After the West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl, Sri Lanka needed to post a huge total on the board at the small ground. Out walked Tillakaratne Dilshan, who is quite familiar with the conditions at the Chinnaswamy stadium from his days with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The 39-year-old wasted no time at all and got going from the first ball he faced. Fresh from his latest exploits against Afghanistan, Dilshan clobbered Andre Russell for a six over deep square leg.

On the very next ball, Dilshan scored delightfully flicked the ball off his pads for a four as the Lions added 13 runs in the first over. While his innings didn’t last too long, Dilshan certainly gave his team a memorable start.

#2 Angelo Mathews\' strange dismissal

In the 17th over of Sri Lankan innings, Angelo Mathews was trying to guide his team to a respectable total. And Dwayne Bravo, who is famous for his death bowling, was given the responsibility to stop Mathews from doing just that.

After bowling a wide on the first ball, Bravo bowled a slow looping full toss which Mathews completely failed to read. He tried to duck but only ended up top-edging the ball, which went straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin.

The on-field umpires were not clear as to whether the ball was a clean ball or not, with height being an issue. The decision was sent to the third umpire, who adjudged that had Mathews not gone on his knees the ball would have been below his waist, hence he was declared out.

It was a strange way for Sri Lanka’s best finisher to get out, and we’ll certainly remember the dismissal for a while.

#3 Bravos brilliance in the field

Dwayne Bravo is unarguably one of the most athletic cricketers around and he keeps proving that time and again. The former Chennai Super Kings player was bowling the last over of the first innings and Thisara Perera and Rangana Herath were the two batsmen at the crease.

Herath faced the third ball of the over but failed to judge a slower one from Bravo which struck his pad and rolled to the off side. The two batsmen immediately set off for a single so that Perera could come on strike for the last two balls of the over.

But in the blink of an eye, Bravo ran towards the ball, turned around and threw the ball straight at the stumps. The bails were dislodged and the diminutive spinner was adjudged out by the on-field umpire, thanks to that signature piece of fielding by Bravo.

#4 When Gayle was not allowed to bat

Chris Gayle
Gayle taking a catch during the game

Chris Gayle injured himself while taking a catch in the ninth over to get rid of Milinda Siriwardana. He was instantly taken off the field and replaced by Jason Holder.

Later it was learned that Gayle would not open the batting for the West Indies and instead Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles would take guard at the top. However, later when Denesh Ramdin lost his wicket in the 13th over, Gayle was all padded up and started coming out to bat.

While the crowd roared how much they wanted Gayle to come out and bat, umpire Ian Gould stopped the swashbuckling batsman from coming in as he needed, at least, two wickets to fall or 11 minutes to pass before he could be allowed to go out and bat. It made for quite a funny sight, Gould dragging Gayle back into the pavilion!

#5 Fletcher makes up for Gayle\'s absence

Andre Fletcher

Andre Fletcher wreaked havoc on the Sri Lankan bowling line-up from the word go. Few were able to escape his wrath in the match as he smashed his way to a brilliant half-century.

Milinda Siriwardana, bowling the 15th over of the West Indian innings, was trying to keep his team in the match. The team from the Carribean needed 48 more runs to win in 36 balls, and the match could have still gone either way. However, Fletcher had something else in his mind.

The 28-year-old dismissed the first ball of the over for a huge six which eased some pressure on the West Indians. The next ball got the same treatment, but this time straight down the ground.

Siriwardana’s bowling figures were destroyed, and Fletcher had given the crowd what they had wanted, even in Gayle’s absence!
