5 ways the New Day can turn face

The New Day formed organically as three individuals looking for a new path.

The New Day have been red-hot as the WWE Tag Team Champions.Over the last several months, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E have taken the New Day gimmick from a lame-face faction to a red-hot heel group. In the process, the three men have picked up the WWE Tag Team titles and a trombone somehow. Most of their success only came because of their proficient work as heels, but like any team, the possibility remains that the trio could one day flip back to the face side. With a team like the New Day, that move must be done the exact right way if it is to be done at all. So here’s five options.

#1 Split up

The New Day formed organically as three individuals looking for a new path.

So this one’s technically cheating a bit because it wouldn’t actually involve all three men turning. The basis for this move would be that while Xavier Woods has been phenomenal on the microphone and does a lot of the heel work in promos, he doesn’t carry much of a load in the ring.

One way to turn the New Day gimmick face would be to have Big E and Kofi realize that they are the more gifted wrestlers and that Xavier’s mouth could get them in trouble. While this would be the easiest move to pull off, it would be unadvisable as the trio’s chemistry has played a role in their success.

#2 Feud with The Authority

Before Seth Rollins got hurt, he and the New Day occasionally worked together for matches and promos.

The WWE likes to use all the heels and faces grouped together regardless of storyline, and as a result, the New Day has worked with the Authority in recent months. But it certainly doesn’t have to be that way, and such a change would make the New Day come off as faces.

For instance, the New Day could agree to help the Authority against the likes of Roman Reigns, and that assistance could get the New Day a beatdown at the hands of Reigns, Ambrose and the Usos. If that happened enough, it would be logical for the New Day to grow tired of it and turn on the Authority. As with the Shield, such a decision would land New Day on the side of the good guys.

#3 Feud with the League of Nations

This is a lot of men and a lot of gold to be standing together in one ring.

As with the Authority, the New Day’s status as heels has led them to work alongside the League of Nations – Sheamus, Wade Barrett, Alberto Del Rio and Rusev. But if there’s a group as generally disliked as the Authority, it’s the League of Nations, and that could help the New Day turn.

If these two groups were to be pitted against each other, either because two League members are targeting the tag titles or because the New Day decides to pick on Sheamus’ hair, the New Day would clearly be the fan favorites.

#4 Make the save

Heels frequently team up on face performers in WWE programming.

This option might be available the most frequently on WWE television, but it would also require the most storyline explanation. Simply having the New Day come out and save a fan favorite like Dolph Ziggler or Neville would certainly ingratiate the New Day to the crowd, but why would they do that?

Perhaps in combination with one of the other feuds on this list, the New Day could decide that the other heels are lame or downright mean, and that could lead them to decide that they’re going to help the good guys.

#5 Target of the Wyatts

The time has likely come for the Wyatts to go after some WWE gold.

This option is probably the best and most logical of the bunch. The Wyatt family has been one of the most impressive and engaging groups of the WWE in recent years, and they are also decidedly a heel faction.

What they haven’t done is win much gold. Luke Harper was the Intercontinental Champion, but he did so more as an Authority henchman than a disciple of Bray Wyatt. Perhaps the clearest title target for the family would be the tag titles currently held by the New Day, with Harper and Braun Strowman as the likely contenders. If that happened, Bray would find a way to make sure New Day came off as the good guys.
