The Premier Ball glitch in Pokemon GO is an annoying bug where your throws automatically become super-charged under certain circumstances. While this glitch may have resurfaced recently during the Giratina Origin raids, it's an age-old bug that is mostly encountered while trying to catch Flying-type Pocket Monsters with the Premier Ball. Fortunately, there's more than one way to avoid this glitch.

In this article, we will explain the Premier Ball glitch in Pokemon GO and explore the options that can allow trainers to potentially avoid it.

The Premier Ball glitch happens when a Pokemon flies up as trainers try to catch it after completing a raid. If the Premier Ball is thrown after the critter has flown up, the throw becomes supercharged. This can be extremely annoying since you will likely miss your circle and fumble the timing.

A supercharged throw makes the Premier Ball fly extremely fast, and will almost always miss the circle. That's not all, because once you've faced this glitch during the capture phase, it will not stop even when the Pokemon comes back down. Simply put, once you encounter the Premier Ball glitch, it will remain unless you know specifically how to reset it.

How to fix or avoid the Premier Ball glitch in Pokemon GO

There are a few fixes currently to fix or avoid the Premier Ball glitch in Pokemon GO:

  • Throw the Premier Ball only when the Pokemon is grounded (or low).
  • Let the Pokemon completely fly up and down.
  • Run away and re-encounter the Pokemon.

Here is an explanation of how both of these methods work:

Throw the Premier Ball only when the Pokemon is grounded

The best way to avoid the Premier Ball glitch is to simply not throw when the Pokemon has flown up. Only throw the Premier Ball when the Pokemon is at the base level. This method takes away any scope of facing this glitch altogether.

However, in some cases, the Pokemon might fly up while you're throwing the Premier Ball. This can also sometimes cause the glitch, following which you need to wait for it to come down, or look at the other solutions to this bug.

Let the Pokemon fly up and down

If the Pokemon has started flying while you throw the Premier Ball, you might still have this glitch. In this kind of scenario, wait for the Pokemon to complete an entire cycle of its movement. Let it fly up, do all horizontal movements, and then come back down again.

When it is finally grounded, use a Nanab Berry to restrict its movements and throw your Premier Ball. This can potentially solve the glitch and make it easier to catch a Pokemon.

Run away and re-encounter the Pokemon

This might be a bit risky, and you must have an acute sense of the total raid-encounter timing. If you see that you have faced this glitch, run away and re-encounter the Pokemon altogether. This will reset the positioning factor completely, removing the supercharged Premier Ball glitch in Pokemon GO as well.

Note that if you're unaware of the total encounter time, chances are that the Pokemon will run away before you can re-encounter it. As such, assess the risk related properly before giving this method a go.

While these solutions are known to work, some trainers might still face problems. Patience and trying to accommodate the glitch seem to be the only way around this kind of situation in Pokemon GO.
