Pokemon GO recently debuted the long-anticipated Mega Evolution, Mega Lucario, in an exclusive Raid Day event. This event was already held in high regard among the community as most raids of this caliber are Elite Raids, which can only be completed in person. This Raid Day was one of the best in recent history for many due to its incentivization of remote raids and the many bonuses to raid loot.

u/Entire_Pineapple4732 on the Silph Road subreddit recently shared their praises for the event on the forum, stating that they appreciated the increase in Rare Candy XLs it featured. They go on to state the following on the matter:

"Rare Candy XL from captured raid boss should be the new norm for special raid events."

Rare Candy XLs are valuable for high-level players who participate in top-tier Raid Battles or Pokemon GO's competitive Battle League. These items allow players to obtain more XL Candies for any of their monsters, thus allowing them to upgrade their creature further, making it more powerful overall.

Overall, most players agree with the original poster, saying that the bonus that grants additional Rare Candy XLs for completed raids should become a staple for Raid Day events in the future as well. Since these are Rare Candy variants of XL Candies instead of species-specific Rare Candies, players can grind these raids for some new Pokemon, while also getting items for their competitive battle party.

The Mega Lucario Raid Day also featured an optional $5 ticket that came with some bonus boosts in addition to the ones players already received for free. One of these, as pointed out by user Travyplx, was that players could receive these Rare Candy XLs from remote raids, in addition to in-person Raid Battles.

This was incredibly beneficial for many players, as the limit on Remote Raid Battles can participate in per day was substantially increased from three to 20 for the event. Players could also obtain more free passes for in-person battles as well, with even more being given out to those with tickets.

u/-ladykitsune- explains how she has felt more motivated to buy more Raid Passes, which is what Niantic would want as a business. With these Rare Candy XLs giving players who focus more on PvP a reason to participate in the more common raid-related events Pokemon GO is known for, some battlers may even be tempted to spend a bit more for the $5 ticket.

Are Pokemon GO raid events getting better?

While the Mega Lucario Raid Day was a success, many players still remember the Mega Rayquaza Elite Raid incident that took place on June 29. Many players recall Niantic promising the event would be a Raid Day similar to what was done for Mega Lucario. Instead, this was changed to an Elite Raid event at the last minute.

Overall, the quality of Raid Days is greatly improving, but this may mean that they become less common overall. With both forms of Mega Mewtwo still on the horizon, they will likely be Elite Raids like Rayquaza. Nevertheless, it would be nice to see them debut in a Raid Day to give hardcore trainers an additional reason to grind out these raids.
