Pokemon GO's October 2024 Community Day event was confirmed to feature the Bug/Grass-type Pokemon Sewaddle, and some trainers aren't particularly happy about the choice. One such example came in the form of a GO subreddit post by the user u/DONT_HAVE_A_NAME-_- who shared a meme calling Sewaddle worthless with the title "I'm not even motivated to play the Community Day":
Some trainers agreed that the Community Day wasn't among their priorities, while other Pokemon GO fans defended Sewaddle, either for its design or the fact that its final evolution Leavanny has some applications in Great League PvP or lower-end PvE situations. Whatever the case, there was a little friendly disagreement with the notion that the October Community Day event was completely pointless.

All the while, it's understandable for plenty of trainers not to be particularly keen on Sewaddle being the Pokemon of choice for October's Community Day event. Despite Leavanny having some niche uses, it and its prior evolutions Sewaddle/Swadloon are hardly fan-favorite Pokemon or considered valuable in the battle meta. Bug-type Pokemon, in general, are often maligned for being weak.
Still, most of the comments to the original post were asking for calm. After all, not every Community Day can feature a starter Pokemon or a pseudo-legendary species that evolves into a powerful battler. Some Community Days are simply about filling out the Pokedex, collecting resources like Stardust and candy, or hunting down a Pocket Monster's shiny variation.
Put plainly, Community Days aren't reserved for the hardcore player base or high-end PvP/PvE battlers, but for the community at large, which still consists of plenty of casual fans. For these trainers, the prospect of catching and evolving a Pokemon they haven't yet or snagging it's shiny might be worth participating in the Community Day event.

Pokemon GO's Community Days Must Strike a Tenuous Balance
A certain segment of Pokemon GO trainers would likely love nothing more than to catch Pokemon like Gible, Dratini, or their choice of starter with every Community Day since it's useful for powering up some of the best meta monsters in the game. However, it's important to remember that the battle-loving player base doesn't represent all trainers within the community.
Some players would prefer to fill their Pokedexes with catches and evolutions. Others enjoy hunting for new shinies to add to their collection. All the while, plenty of trainers just like collecting and using their favorites. The Pokemon GO community is still quite large and consists of many different players, and Niantic can't please them all in a single Community Day event.
Niantic has included plenty of Pokemon who evolve into meta darlings in the past, including Wooper/Paldean Wooper, Timburr, Gible, Poliwag, Togetic, and more. The Community Day Classic events also provide access to countless starter Pokemon. All things considered, sprinkling in a few non-meta Pokemon is only fair to trainers who aren't as committed to high-end raiding or PvP.
