How to get Shiny Yamask and Shiny Cofagrigus in Pokemon GO

Shiny Yamask and Shiny Cofagrigus were added to Pokemon GO back in 2019 during the Halloween Event. Although these Ghost-type critters are fairly uncommon, there are quite a few ways to obtain them. Trainers who are looking to add these critters to their collection should be excited, as these Pocket Monsters will be up for grabs with a boosted spawn rate during the Pokemon Go Research Day.

Yamask and its Galarian variant are the featured 'mons for the Pokemon GO Research Day on October 19, 2024, which will last from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. As such, you will have special tasks, which you must complete to get a Yamask or Galarian Yamask encounter.

Special Research Tasks

While the Research Day event is active, you will be able to obtain special Field Research Tasks by spinning PokeStops all around. Completing these can grant you an encounter with a Yamask or its Shiny variant. Since Research Day features a boosted appearance rate for Shiny Yamask, you might just be able to get it if Lady Luck is on your side.

Yamask has previously appeared in other Special and Timed Research Tasks, mostly during the 2020 Halloween event.

Wild Encounters

Yamask does not spawn normally in the wild in Pokemon GO. Since Shiny variants of Pokemon are already elusive, your chances of encountering a Shiny Yamask in the wild are abysmal.

Both Yamask and its Shiny variant have maximum CP caps of 841 (normal) and 912 (weather-boosted) as wild spawn.

Raid Battles

Yamask appears in Tier-1 Raid Battles in Pokemon GO with a maximum CP of 3,365. As such, you will be able to easily take it down on your own with any Dark-type or Ghost-type critters since Yamask is weak to these types. Moreover, once you catch this Pokemon, it is going to have 516 to 561 CP normally, or 646 to 701 CP if weather-boosted.

Once again, you will be able to catch a Shiny Yamask after defeating it in a raid battle if you are lucky enough.

Ways to get Shiny Cofagrigus in Pokemon GO

You can only get a Shiny Cofagrigus in Pokemon GO by evolving it from a Shiny Yamask. You will need the following for this evolution:

50 Yamask Candies

Getting that many candies for Yamask might be difficult since it is a rare spawn by default. The easiest way to achieve this would be by ensuring Yamask is your buddy. Then, you can keep completing the daily actions that will increase your buddy's happiness.
