How to get Shadow Cresselia in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?

Shadow Cresselia in Pokemon GO is the latest Legendary Pocket Monster to be brought under Team GO Rocket's control, and players can get it by defeating the evil gang's boss, Giovanni. It is available during the Adventure Week: Taken Over event at 12 am local time on August 8, 2024, and can be found until the next Team GO Rocket Takeover event in Niantic's mobile game.

This article will go over the steps to find and capture Shadow Cresselia in Pokemon GO.

How to catch Shadow Cresselia in Pokemon GO

To capture Shadow Cresselia in Pokemon GO, you must locate Giovanni and defeat him. Doing so will give you a bonus encounter with Shadow Cresselia. You can only find the Team GO Rocket boss using a Super Rocket Radar. Here are the steps you must follow to find and capture this Shadow Pokemon:

Step 1: Open the claim after 12 am local time between August 8 and 11:59 pm local time on August 12, 2024, to claim the Adventure Week Taken Over Special Research.

Step 2: Complete up to Stage 3 of the Research Story. This involves capturing 35 Pocket Monsters, Purifying five critters, defeating nine Rocket Grunts (at least), and winning against Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo at least once. This will reward you a Super Rocket Radar.

Step 3: Activate the Super Rocket Radar to locate Giovanni. Go to him and challenge him in battle. Check out our guide on how to defeat Pokemon GO Giovanni for help with this step.

Step 4: Once you take down Giovanni in battle, you will receive Shadow Cresselia in Pokemon GO as a bonus encounter.

Step 5: Hit Shadow Cresselia with one of the Poke Balls you are given. It is a guaranteed catch as long as you can land a Ball on target. However, if you run out of Balls, the critter will run away and you will lose it unless you can procure a second Super Rocket Radar.

Since Shadow Cresselia encountered from Giovanni is a guaranteed encounter. Feel free to use a Pinap or Silver Pinap Berry to maximize the number of Candy you receive.

The creature will be at level 13 if boosted by Windy weather and at level 8 otherwise. Its max CP in the former case will be 644 and 1061 in the latter. Shadow Cresselia has an IV floor of 6/6/6.

Can Shadow Cresselia in Pokemon GO be shiny?

As of August 2024, Shadow Cresselia can't be shiny in Pokemon GO. This applies to all the Shadow Pocket Monster encounters you receive by taking down Giovanni. You will most likely have to wait for the creature to make its Shadow Raid debut to find its elusive shiny form.
