How to get Minun in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?

Minun in Pokemon GO was added to the game with the original cast of Hoenn-region Pocket Monsters back in December 2017. About seven months later in July 2018, its shiny variant also debuted in the title. Since then, it has been available via different means, especially during events that focus on it.

October 2024's A Magnetic Study is the latest event to celebrate the Minus Pokemon, as well as its close associate, Plusle. The celebration lasts from October 15 - 17, 2024.

Ways to catch Minun in Pokemon GO

You can encounter and capture Minun in Pokemon GO in the following ways as of October 2024:

Wild encounters

Since its release in 2017, Minun has been available as a random wild encounter at all times. Its spawn rates are boosted during specific events, some examples of which are as follows:

Generally, you cannot guarantee meeting a Minun in the wild. However, you can increase your chances of finding one by using a Magnetic Lure module or by visiting places where Rainy weather is common.

Raid battles

Minun can be encountered as a one-star raid boss with 5,097 CP during certain events. Any Ground-type creatures above 2,000 CP with appropriate Ground-type Fast and Charged Attacks should be able to take it down.

Once you defeat Minun in Pokemon GO one-star raids, you can encounter it between 1,138 and 1,210 CP in Rainy weather. Without weather boost, you can find it between 910 and 968 CP.

Research encounters

Minun has been available as a reward for completing several Field, Special, and Timed Research tasks over the years. During A Magnetic Study, it will be available as a prize for completing each stage of the Timed Research on October 17, 2024.

Additionally, you can complete the following Field Research tasks for a chance to encounter Minun in Pokemon GO during the event:

Can Minun be shiny in Pokemon GO?

Shiny Minun has been available in Pokemon GO since GO Fest 2018. It usually has a 1-in-512 chance of appearing, but during special events like A Magnetic Study, it has boosted shiny odds of 1-in-64.
