Pokemon GO introduced Roggenrola and its evolutions Boldore and Gigalith in January 2020 when Trade Evolution mechanics were added to the game. If you've recently caught Roggenrola, you may be curious as to how it can evolve into Boldore and more importantly Gigalith. There are technically multiple answers, and it doesn't hurt to examine the process a little more closely.

Evolving Roggenrola into Boldore can only be accomplished with candy in Pokemon GO, but there are options you can take advantage of when it comes to evolving Boldore into Gigalith. Depending on the resources available to you, you can obtain Gigalith while saving plenty of Roggenrola candy.

Before getting Gigalith in Pokemon GO via evolution, you'll need to evolve your Roggenrola into a Boldore. This requires 50 Roggenrola candy, which can be obtained from various sources like catching Roggenrola (and using Pinap Berries on it), walking with it set as your buddy Pokemon, using Rare Candies on it, hatching Roggenrola from eggs, transferring extra Roggenrola, and more.

Regardless of how you get the 50 candies, once you have them, simply open Roggenrola's page via the Pokemon menu, scroll down and tap the evolve button. With Boldore in your possession, the next step is to evolve it into Gigalith, and you have two options: you can either evolve it using 200 Roggenrola candy or by trading it and then evolving it.

The candy process works exactly the same as how evolving Roggenrola into Boldore does, but using trade evolution will save you 200 candy, so that might be preferable if you have a friend on Pokemon GO who is willing to trade with you. Below, you can find the steps to obtaining Gigalith via evolution:

  1. Find a friend and connect with them in the trade menu, and offer your Boldore for any Pokemon your trade partner selects.
  2. Pay the required stardust to complete the trade. Once the trade is finished, the candy cost to evolve Boldore into Gigalith will drop to zero, allowing your trade partner to evolve Boldore into Gigalith and then trade it back to you or for you to trade back for Boldore and evolve it yourself.

That's all there is to it! Trade evolution isn't available for every creature in Niantic's mobile title, but fortunately, if you've got a Roggenrola, the process of evolving it into Gigalith is easier compared to some other Pokemon evolutions. Getting the initial candy or a trade partner might be tricky in some situations, but it doesn't hurt to have options when it comes to evolving any Pocket Monster.
