Pokemon GO's Dynamax mechanic has finally arrived for the Max Out season, complete with Dynamax Pokemon, Max Battles, and Max Particles. By completing certain tasks, you can catch Pokemon eligible to transform in their Dynamax forms, Dynamax Pokemon are the only kind that can be used in Max Battles, but can you transfer all your Dynamax Pokemon? It appears the answer is yes.

While an initial Serebii report has stated that your last Dynamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO cannot be transferred to Professor Willow, it appears that your final Dynamax-compatible Pokemon CAN be transferred to Pokemon Home. It's unclear as to whether this was an oversight or not, but it does result in an important question: How do you enter Max Battles with no Dynamax mons?

To participate in Pokemon GO's Max Battles, you need a sum of Max Particles as well as a Pokemon that is capable of activating its Dynamax form. If you were to transfer your last Dynamax-compatible Pokemon to Pokemon Home, you would effectively be incapable of joining Max Raids until you got another Dynamax-capable Pocket Monster.

Fortunately, there are more than a few ways to obtain a Dynamax-capable Pokemon when you have none available, including:

  • Catching them in the wild by searching for wild Pokemon spawns near a Power Spot.
  • Completing certain types of research like the Max Out season's "To The Max" special research, which offers encounters with Dynamax-capable Wooloo and Skwovet.
  • Trading for a Dynamax Pokemon, which should be fairly cheap since these trades aren't considered Special Trades.

In the event you give up your last Dynamax Pokemon to Pokemon Home, it should be noted that it's a one-way trip. Pokemon sent to Home can't be returned to GO, so be careful about the Pokemon you're sending to your Nintendo Switch. There may be ways to get more Dynamax-capable Pokemon in GO, but having at least one in your collection should be a rule of thumb to keep in mind.

While it's understandable to want to transfer some of your Dynamax Pokemon, either to Professor Willow or to Pokemon Home, keeping at least one Dynamax-capable species will ensure you can still engage in Max Battles and complete any research tasks that focus on the new Dynamax mechanic. Without one of these Pokemon, the Dynamax-related gameplay is seemingly closed off.

Niantic may eventually implement additional safeguards to prevent your last Dynamax Pokemon from being sent from Pokemon GO to Pokemon Home, but until that happens, it's best to use caution.
