Pokemon GO's Dynamax Pokemon have arrived courtesy of the Max Out season and the GO All Out event, and trainers are already scrambling to collect Dynamax-capable creatures so they can be used in Max Battles. However, you may wonder, is it possible to trade your Dyanamax Pokemon to other players? The answer is yes, and trading Dynamax Pokemon isn't even considered a Special Trade.

In Pokemon GO, early observations suggest that trading Dynamax-capable Pokémon is treated as a regular trade rather than a Special Trade, regardless of whether the other trainer has a Dynamax Pokemon. Additionally, it appears that Lucky Trades works the same with Dynamax Pokemon as their non-Dynamax counterparts.

Did Niantic make a mistake with Dynamax Trades by not making them Special Trades in Pokemon GO?

As soon as it was made clear on social media that Dynamax-capable Pokemon in Pokemon GO could be traded ordinarily, it's understandable to wonder if this was an intentional choice or whether Niantic may have made a mistake and originally intended Dynamax Pokemon trades to be considered Special Trades like legendaries, mythics, Ultra Beasts, etc.

Because Dynamax transformations in the mainline Pokemon series can be performed by every Pokemon (unlike Gigantamax transformations which are for certain creatures), it's possible that Niantic didn't deem it right to make every Dynamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO a Special Trade. Particularly because some Dynamax-capable Pokemon aren't all that useful outside of Max Battles.

Obviously, if Niantic eventually implements a change that results in Dynamax Pokemon becoming Special Trades, it may be made clear that this was the developer's intention from the start. However, it's just as likely that because Dynamaxing was a common battle gimmick that didn't discriminate in Pokemon Sword and Shield, the standard trade costs in GO may have also been purposeful.

The only way to find out for sure at the moment is to wait and see. Hopefully, trading Dynamax Pokemon remains a standard trade. Likely, future Dynamax-capable Pokemon that are legendary, mythical, etc. will still be considered Special Trades like their non-Dynamax-capable counterparts, but this is simply speculation until Niantic confirms things.

This would certainly make sense, as a Dynamax Wooloo such as those available during the current Max Out season and, say, a future Dynamax Mewtwo would be appreciated differently. It would make sense for a Dynamax-capable Mewtwo to be considered a Special Trade since it's a legendary species, but a Wooloo can be caught in a much more standard way, Dynamax or not.

For the time being, it's recommended to take full advantage of Dynamax Pokemon trading in its current state just in case there's a future change. However, if the change never comes, that's likely a welcome decision by the community for Niantic to stay put for the benefit of the fans.
