Caleb Williams has been in the spotlight ahead of the Chicago Bears' final NFL preseason game of 2024. The Bears will square off against the Kansas City Chiefs in their preseason finale on Thursday, and fans want to know whether this year's top draft pick will feature in the contest.
Why is Caleb Williams not playing vs. Chiefs tonight?
Caleb Williams will not feature against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium later on Thursday night, as per Bears coach Matt Eberflus. The quarterback is active on the team roster, but will not be risked in the exhibition game before the regular season begins.
Most of Chicago's starters also won't play against the Chiefs.
While speaking to reporters earlier this week, Eberflus pointed out that he will have some of his backup quarterbacks taking most of the snaps against the Chiefs.
"We'll look at some guys who have lower numbers and some of those guys, we'll have that discussion finalized later [Wednesday] morning, when we do our participation meeting," Eberflus said.
Williams played in Chicago's preseason wins over the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this month.
Against the Bills, Williams completed four of seven passes for 95 yards and had one rush for 13 yards in Chicago's 33-6 victory. He then completed six of 13 passes for 75 yards while adding a seven-yard rushing touchdown in a 27-3 win over the Bengals.
