The New York Giants will attempt to reach .500 for the first time this season when they square off against the Cincinnati Bengals at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The Bengals defense, which now ranks No. 31 in the NFL in points allowed for the year, hasn't been able to prevent rival attacks from scoring, despite quarterback Joe Burrow and the rest of the offense generating an abundance of points this season.

This game against a failing defense will present a good chance for the Giants to record their third win in their last four games and keep being competitive in the tough NFC East division.

The Week 6 game between the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals is scheduled to be officiated by Carl Cheffers and his officiating crew on Sunday night.

Cheffers is the NFL's longest-serving referee at this point. Having been a side judge for eight years prior, he was elevated to the position of crew chief at the start of the 2008 NFL season, after Gerald Austin retired.

Cheffers has officiated 16 Cincinnati Bengals games throughout his tenure as an NFL referee. Coincidentally, he was also in charge the last time Cincy played against the Giants in 2020.

The Bengals have won four, lost ten, and tied two games with Cheffers as the referee, including a 19-17 home loss to the Giants in 2020.

Cheffers and his team are already averaging the fewest penalties per game this season (8), having averaged the second-fewest in the league last season. Also, the team playing on the road has received the majority of the flags that the seasoned referee and his staff have thrown, with an average of 4.75 against the road team and 3.25 against the home team.

Cheffers, who officiated two of the last four Super Bowls and the 2021 NFC Championship Game, is regarded as one of the NFL's most renowned referees.
