Dak Prescott is a perennial Pro Bowler and the long-time starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott went from being a fourth-round pick in the NFL Draft to becoming an MVP contender under the bright lights in Dallas.

Prescott attended Mississippi State University from 2011 to 2015, honing his football talents under the tutelage of Dan Mullen. Let's take a look at the Cowboys' QB's pre-NFL career.

How did Dak Prescott perform in college?

Dak Prescott had a slow start to his college football career. He sat out his first year as a redshirt in 2011, was a backup option in 2012, and was part of a two-QB system with Tyler Russell.

However, it was in 2014 that Prescott was given the keys to the offense, and he ran with it. According to the school website, Prescott put together the most prolific season by a quarterback in MSU history.

The Cowboys star racked up a stat line of 3,449 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, and a passing efficiency of 151.7. Prescott ended the season by becoming the first finalist in school history for the Maxwell, Johnny Unitas, and Davey O'Brien Awards. He also ranked eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Prescott returned for his fifth and final season in 2015. He was one of the players in the nation with at least 25 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns.

He finished his collegiate career by earning All-SEC first-team honors from the coaches, ESPN.com, the Associated Press and Athlon Sports. He ended his college career with 38 school records.

How has Dak Prescott fared in the NFL?

Dak Prescott was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 135th selection of the 2016 Draft. Prescott entered Dallas training camp as the third-string quarterback behind franchise legend Tony Romo and incumbent backup Kellen Moore.

However, injuries to both Romo and Moore led to Prescott being a Week 1 starter for America's team. He never looked back and ended his rookie season as the first quarterback in league history drafted in round four or later to start all 16 fixtures as a rookie.

Since then, Prescott has become one of the most consistent quarterbacks in modern Cowboy history. He has racked up three Pro Bowl selections, a second-team All-Pro nod, a second-place spot in MVP voting, and the 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year trophy.
