Training camps have started, and NFL teams have begun serious preparations for the upcoming season. The stars are out, and the countdown to September is already ticking.

However, despite most teams being filled with high-end talents, some elite players are still available on the free-agent market.

Top Five free agents available ahead of the 2024 NFL preseason

Here's a look at five free agents that can be assets in the right system:

5. Julio Jones, Wide receiver

Julio Jones is the player on this list who will most likely be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The seven-time Pro Bowler was hard to stop in his prime and regularly made cornerbacks look clueless in coverage.

Despite already being 35 years old now, he could still be effective as the third-string wide receiver on a Super Bowl contender.

4. Ryan Tannehill, Quarterback

2023 was a forgettable year for Ryan Tannehill. First, he played some of the worst football of his career, got injured, and finally lost his starting job to rookie QB Will Levis. Tannehill never regained his job and was released at the end of last season.

The 2019 Comeback Payer of the Year remains unsigned, but he could be a reliable backup for a playoff-caliber franchise and perform the Joe Flacco role if the QB1 gets hurt.

3. David Bakhtiari, Tackle

David Bakhtiari started his NFL career on a Hall of Fame trajectory, with the offensive lineman earning plaudits for his protection of Aaron Rodgers. However, Bakhtiari has suffered a nightmare run and injuries in the past few seasons.

The Green Bay Packers laid him off in the 2023 offseason, and the three-time Pro Bowler is looking to join just the second team of his career. There are rumors that the Kansas City Chiefs will be interested if Bakhtiari proves his fitness.

2. Shaquille Leonard, Linebacker

Shaquille Leonard is the most decorated defensive player on the free agent market. The former Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles LB is surprisingly still awaiting a contract from a team at this stage of the offseason.

Leonard is a three-time Pro Bowler and the 2018 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He belongs on an NFL roster, and we won't be surprised if he's signed before the start of preseason.

1. Dalvin Cook, Running back

Dalvin Cook is the latest example of how little the modern NFL values running backs. Cook made four consecutive Pro Bowls before missing last season's edition.

He last appeared on the New York Jets and is looking for his next opportunity. Some expect Cook to join a contender and serve as a committee member for the 2024 season.
