In August 2017, Austin signed a four-year, $42 million extension with the Rams. However, in March 2018, he converted his LA contract into a one-year, $7 million deal.

Austin was then traded to the Dallas Cowboys the following month. In March 2019, Austin signed a one-year, $1.75 million contract with the Cowboys.

Ahead of the 2020 season, Austin signed a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Green Bay Packers. The wideout then joined the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2021 season on a one-year, $1.075 million deal.

Austin didn't play in the past two seasons. He had signed with the Buffalo Bills practice squad on June 2, 2022, but was released before the start of the season.

Austin announced his retirement on Instagram on Tuesday. In a post, he wrote:

“No matter how hard you work or how badly you want something, sometimes God has other plans. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to give up football, and it has been one of the most challenging decisions I’ve ever made. But after an incredible 10 years, I’m officially retiring from the NFL."
