Fantasy football managers would have noted how Romeo Doubs stepped up during the Packers' run to the playoffs last season by becoming a trusted receiver for Jordan Love and shouldering the load when Christian Watson was out. And they might be hoping for something similar given the injury Watson suffered in Week 4 in their defeat against the Vikings.

He twisted his ankle and had to be carted off the field and initially it was thought that he might miss significant game time. However, he seems to have avoided the worst, but the Rams game might come too early for him. He did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful for the game.

Christian Watson is not the the only offensive weapon for Green Bay who is dealing with an ankle injury. Tight end Luke Musgrave is also questionable for this game and he did not practice all week. If both he and Watson fail to start the game against the Rams, Jordan Love will have to contend with missing two of his best receivers on the West Coast.

Given the circumstances, fantasy football owners would expect higher production and output from Romeo Doubs. But there is added intrigue coming out of Green Bay and it seems confirmed that the Packers receiver will not be able to deliver on that opportunity.

Should I drop Romeo Doubs for Week 5 fantasy football?

Romeo Doubs was listed as doubtful for Week 5 on the final injury report. He did not practice all week based on what was reported as a personal matter. Later, it emerged that he was unhappy with the way he was being used in the offense. Choosing not to turn up on Thursday and Friday necessitated the Packers having to check on him at his house.

Because of these issues, general manager Brian Gutekunst took the decision to suspend the wide receiver for Week 5. The executive said that it was a difficult decision but Romeo Doubs' actions had been detrimental to the team and forced them to react. Therefore, fantasy football managers should drop the player since he will not take the field against the Rams.

Brian Gutekunst also said that he hoped this was a one-time thing. However, one does not know how long this saga is expected to play out. Even if he does return for Week 6, fantasy football owners will have to consider if they want to take a chance on a disillusioned player.

The reasons for his unhappiness are not hard to determine. He has 169 receiving yards in four games this season, which is just above 42 yards a match, on average. He has yet to record a receiving touchdown. Therefore, unless Matt LaFleur changes the offense dramatically one could see a reduced role for the wide receiver.

There are other factors to consider, though. The Packers are 2-2 and have had to deal with an injury to starting quarterback Jordan Love in Weeks 2 and 3. Malik Willis had to come in and although he led them to two wins, the way the offense was structured was a little different.

Love looked like getting back to his best toward the end of the game against the Vikings last week and if he continues to feel his way back into his best form, Romeo Doubs and others might see an increase in targets. Because of all these variables, fantasy football managers should wait after Week 5 for some time to see how this situation develops before choosing the wide receiver again.
