Ezekiel Elliott fantasy football outlook

Ezekiel Elliott spent his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys before joining the New England Patriots last season. After just one year away, he returned to his former team for the 2024 NFL season. He was projected to serve as the Cowboys' starting running back again, making him an attractive fantasy football target during drafts.

The veteran has been disappointing this year as his backfield timeshare has resulted in diminished fantasy value. He is now a legitimate candidate to be outright dropped from fantasy rosters with Week 5 quickly approaching. It's important to load up a fantasy roster with high-upside options on the bench, but it has become difficult to make a case for Elliott being one of those players.

Ezekiel Elliott has become a bit of an afterthought in the Dallas Cowboys' offensive gameplan. Despite playing in a high-powered offense, he has totaled just 30 touches for 117 yards across his first four games of the season. He has also seen his snap percentage drop each week, opening the year with 51% in Week 1 and dropping all they way to 18% last week.

His limited production and decreased playing time make Elliott a clear candidate to be dropped entering Week 5 of the 2024 fantasy football season. Rico Dowdle has clearly surpassed him as the preferred running back in the Cowboys' backfield and the team also has Dalvin Cook. It's hard to imagine a big bounceback from Zeke, so managers can feel safe dropping him this week.

Ezekiel Elliott fantasy outlook for rest of 2024 season

Ezekiel Elliott was formerly one of the best overall fantasy football running backs in the NFL during his prime years with the Dallas Cowboys. This includes finishing as the RB10 or better in each of his first six seasons. The past two years have seen his value diminish, as he had RB19 and RB32 finishes.

The veteran showed signs of bouncing back last year with the Patriots, finishing among the top 25 weekly running backs five times in his final six games. This increased his overall outlook prior to the 2024 season, but he has quickly plummeted this year. His snaps and touches have decreased in each of his four games with the Cowboys this season, so his best days appear to be over.
