In a Green Bay Packers team without any star wide receivers, Christian Watson is perhaps the one who comes closest to that description. When he is fit, he is the go-to guy for Jordan Love and it was on one such target that the wide receiver was injured in last week's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

With Green Bay trailing, the quarterback tried to thread a pass to Christian Watson. But the ball was intercepted and as the defender came down with the ball, he landed on the wideout's planted leg. The player was immediately in pain and made it to the sidelines before being carted off the field. He did not return for the rest of the match and was diagnosed with an ankle injury.

Based on that fantasy football managers now have to make a decision whether they should stick with the Packers wide receiver in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Should I drop Christian Watson for Week 5 fantasy football?

Christian Watson was initially feared to have suffered a serious injury but it looks like the worst has been avoided. Even then, the Week 5 game against the Rams might come too soon for him. While we will not know whether he will be definitely out for the game, he did not practice on Wednesday and it is not a sure bet that he will be on the field in that game.

With Jordan Love returning and the Packers scoring 22 points against the Vikings in the fourth quarter to nearly pull off an amazing comeback, fantasy football managers would have been bullish on having Watson available on their teams. However, based on the indications right now, he is a drop candidate for Week 5.

Christian Watson's fantasy outlook for rest of 2024 season

Christian Watson was initially thought to have suffered a severe high ankle sprain or a fracture, at worst, that could have ruled him out for a significant portion of the season. If he had been placed on injured reserve, he would have missed at least the next four weeks, but he looks to have avoided that.

Hence, while Week 5 is uncertain for him, the Packers receiver should remain in consideration for fantasy football owners going forward in the 2024 NFL season.

Not considering the Vikings game where he was injured, Watson played two games this year, both with backup quarterback Malik Willis. He recorded 80 yards in just five receptions and also recorded a touchdown. As Jordan Love returns to the team and the wideout also overcomes the ankle injury, one can expect his production to increase and give good value to fantasy football managers.
