Should I drop Tua Tagovailoa? Dolphins QB's fantasy outlook in the spotlight

It's not looking too good for people who drafted Tua Tagovailoa. The Miami Dolphins, by default, have boasted some fantasy studs over the past few years. You could do little wrong if you drafted one of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle or De'Von Achane. But we're three weeks into the NFL season and after Tua Tagovailoa's concussion during Week 2 Thursday Night Football, it's time to rethink things.

Should you drop Tua Tagovailoa?

Tua was officially placed on Injured Reserve so if you're still holding out hope that he will be back sooner rather than later, it might be time to find other ways to cope.

The Dolphins quarterback is expected to meet with outside neurologists later this week, per head coach Mike McDaniel who told reporters:

"The plan hasn't changed. It's been executed. That's where it stands. I don't know reports, who sources are, but people should talk to me. I've got the real information."

McDaniel doesn't sound too enthused about the prospects of Tagovailoa returning to action anytime soon but you could also figure that his priority is getting his quarterback's health sorted out before making any decisions over the short- and long-term future of the franchise.

The Dolphins clearly saw enough from Tua to hand him a $212 million extension and also added some respectable names in free agency like Jordan Poyer and Odell Beckham Jr. and also gave a $72.3 million extension to star corner Jalen Ramsey.

We say all of that to point out that the Dolphins clearly had intentions to compete for the Super Bowl this year.

Entering Week 4, however, we're likely to see Tyler Huntley line up under center after backup quarterback Skylar Thompson suffered an injury in Week 3.

At this point, it makes little sense to hold out any hope for Tua returning in the near future. He will have to be cleared for contact before the Dolphins can even consider bringing him back.

Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe and former NFL MVP Cam Newton have been among the big names urging Tua to retire and while that's contrary to reports from the Dolphins QB's camp, if we're looking at it from a fantasy perspective, it surely is time to drop Tua Tagovailoa.
