Eagles or Chargers defense: Week 6 fantasy projections and picks

After some much-needed rest in the middle of a busy season, both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Chargers will return to action in Week 6 with some pretty interesting matchups for both teams.

Both the Eagles and the Chargers are 2-2 after four weeks of football for each team but the Eagles' record speaks volumes given where they were expected to be at this point of the season. With relatively smoother matchups for both Philly and LA, here's everything you need to know before picking between the two defenses for Week 6.

Eagles defense ranking and fantasy projection for Week 6

A lot was expected of this Eagles' defense under Vic Fangio, who has time and again been labeled a defensive mastermind in the league. Heading into Week 6, we are yet to see any signs of the Eagles locking down. Granted, they are coming off a bye week, which always helps in getting healthier. But even at full strength, the Eagles have just not looked menacing enough. This Eagles defense is currently in the bottom five in points per game and QB hits.

However, Week 6's matchup is a very promising one for Philly, who will take on the Cleveland Browns. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been bottom of the pile in just about every relevant metric and can't appear to shake off the rust since missing preseason.

Most weeks, it would be difficult to put your finger on which side of the matchup the Eagles would land on, but this Browns offense has just fallen to pieces this year.

Now here's a matchup we really like. The Denver Broncos have not clicked on offense just yet. In all honesty, that doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. But Sean Payton appears to have convinced himself that Bo Nix is his quarterback of the future, so here we are.

In any case, the Broncos are 3-2 after five weeks of football but it's not the offense that has kept them in games. Vance Joseph's defense has been one mean machine in locking down offenses. Alongside the Vikings, Packers and Bears, the Broncos have looked like one of the most disciplined units in football.

The offense is a whole 'nother ball game, though.

Granted, they haven't allowed Bo Nix to take too many sacks so far, but this Chargers defense has looked really steely. The Chargers are currently #1 in points allowed and top-five in yards allowed. Those are elite numbers. Based on historical evidence, we know the Broncos won't pile on the points against most defenses but against this Chargers defense, expect Bo Nix to be locked down.

Eagles vs Chargers defense: Final verdict

The debate between the Eagles and Chargers defense in Week 6 boils down to two things:

1] The Eagles face Deshaun Watson, who was sacked seven times by Washington last week. Philly should have no problems getting to the Browns' $230 million man given the injuries Cleveland has suffered.

2] The Chargers have been close to a lockdown unit so far and go up against a Denver offense that just doesn't have the potential to exploit most defenses in the league, let alone the Chargers'.
