Nick Chubb is a perennial Pro Bowler and one of the best running backs in the NFL when fit. Chubb is a fearsome runner and decent pass catcher for the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately for the Browns and Chubb fantasy managers, the four-time Pro Bowler has been out of action for over a year due to a knee injury.

Nick Chubb's injury update

According to the Cleveland Browns official website, Nick Chubb was a limited participant in Thursday's training session. Chubb was a limited participant all of last week after the Browns opened his 21-day practice window on October 2, 2024.

Due to the opening of his practice window, Chubb must be activated by October 23, 2024, in order to play this season. If he isn't, then the star running will be ruled out for the year. According to Sports Illustrated, the Browns don't want that to happen, so he may be activated soon.

The Browns play against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 13 and the Cincinnati Bengals on October 20. They could activate Chubb for either of the two games above or wait until their October 27 meeting against the Baltimore Ravens to hand him his season debut. They simply need to activate him on the roster by October 23.

The Athletic’s Zac Jackson shared his thoughts on a potential return while speaking on "BIGPLAY Cleveland" on Thursday:

"I think the Cincinnati game is probably the earliest he was ever going to play and it might not be by then. They’re not going to rush it.”

Who could stand in for Nick Chubb?

The Cleveland Browns currently have three other running backs on their active roster: Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman, and Pierre Strong Jr. Ford has been the team's stand-in RB1 in Chubb's absence.

This season, the Cincinnati product has a stat line of 48 carries, 250 rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown. He hasn't gone over 100 yards in a game just yet, as the Browns seem to be in dire need of a true high-volume rusher. It'll be interesting to see how Kevin Stefanski divides the workload when Chubb returns to the rotation.
