NFL fantasy football Week 7: Kicker rankings

Kickers are often an underutilized part of fantasy football teams, yet they can offer you vital points ahead of Week 7. Week 6 saw a number of bye weeks come for some elite kickers and Week 7 is the perfect opportunity to bring some of these back into your team. This season has seen kickers make a difference in fantasy football matchups in a way they haven’t done in previous years.

With teams going for longer field goals and relying more on their kickers in close games, it’s inevitable these moments will transfer to points in fantasy football.

Who are the best available fantasy football kickers ahead of Week 7?

Ryan SuccopTampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers

Ryan Succop is the best kicker in terms of fantasy football points scored in 2022. He has a tally of 63 points and has been a reliable presence for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He boasts a field goal success rate of 93.8% through Week 6 after making 15 of 16 attempts. His extra-point scoring has been exceptional at 94.9%. The 36-year-old is on the rise after a brilliant performance in Week 6 against the Steelers.

He went four of four on field goal attempts and was the top-scoring K with 14 fantasy football points. This return catapulted him into the top-spot in Sportskeeda’s fantasy kicker rankings. Succop’s longest effort has been from 54 yards, which incidentally is his only 50+ yard attempt of the 2022 season.

Carolina are a favorable opponent for most teams in 2022. You would expect the Buccaneers’ offense to create a lot of yardage. A lack of red zone success may continue to hinder Tom Brady, which will likely bring Succop into play even more. This could provide a crucial increase in fantasy football points in Week 7.

Daniel CarlsonLas Vegas Raiders vs. Houston Texans

The Las Vegas Raiders’ bye week couldn’t have come at a worse moment for Daniel Carlson. He was the hottest leg in the NFL and led the fantasy football scoring charts with 62 points. He also held the highest average number of fantasy points per game with 12.4.

Week 5 saw him perform perfectly against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he converted three field goals (including two from 50+ yards) and two extra-points. The Raiders are back in action in Week 7 against the Houston Texans, which is a mouth-watering matchup for the Silver and Black.

Houston rank 27th in terms of field goal attempts allowed per game with 2.6. This should excite Daniel Carlson's owners, who will look to exploit his phenomenal fantasy football form.

Brett MaherDallas Cowboys vs. Detroit Lions

Brett Maher has contributed to the herculean effort that the Dallas Cowboys’ offense has made to keep wins coming in the absence of Dak Prescott. Boasting a tally of 61 fantasy football points in six games, Maher is one of the leading kickers in the NFL in 2022. Maher will look to continue racking up points against a porous Detroit Lions defense on Sunday.

Detroit has allowed 2.2 field goal attempts per game through Week 6, whilst they haven’t blocked a single kick. Maher has missed just two of 16 field goal attempts in 2022 and has a very reliable technique. The only concern for fantasy football players is that the Lions won’t be able to keep the Cowboys out of the end-zone. This could mean that the Dallas kicker will be restricted to extra-point attempts.

Justin TuckerBaltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns

Whilst perhaps the kicker with the best reputation in the NFL, Justin Tucker is ranked just fourth in the league through Week 6. His return of 8 points in the last game against the New York Giants lifted his tally for the season to 60. However, he is coming under pressure from both Graham Gano and Brandon McManus.

In what is one of the most-heated rivalry matches being played in Week 7, the Cleveland Browns will be looking to make life difficult for the Ravens. Neither team has hit the heights expected in 2022 and it could be a low-scoring affair. Field goals are likely to make a difference and you can rely on Tucker. However, his field goal completion percentage of 66.7% in Week 6 is a cause for alarm.

Graham GanoNew York Giants @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Graham Gano has dropped down to fifth in the kicker rankings ahead of Week 7, and he could well face a challenging matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars under Doug Pederson have one of the best defenses in the league, ranking 11th in terms of points allowed.

This could limit the chances of a run-heavy Giants offense. Especially with Jacksonville having the third-ranked rushing defense in terms of average yards allowed per game. Gano might not get too many opportunities on the field, so it could be a week to rest him in fantasy football teams.
