WWE veteran sides with Tom Brady over Baker Mayfield debate

After 20 seasons, Tom Brady joined a new team, after the New England Patriots era was over, Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The NFL icon led the franchise to Super Bowl success, however, after his retirement, Baker Mayfield had the tall task of filling his gap in 2023. Now as both QBs are feuding, WWE veteran Vince Russo gives his take.

During the Week 4 matchup of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Philadelphia Eagles, Mayfield’s comments about making the franchise “fun again” after Brady’s stint were shown on the screen. Tom Brady was in the broadcast booth and responded fire with fire.

“I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings”, said Brady. “This wasn’t daycare. ... If I was going to have fun, I was going to Disneyland with my kids. There’s a way to approach this game and it’s with the right mindset to push teammates.”

On Tuesday, during his podcast ‘The Coach & The Bro’, Russo sided with Tom Brady on the entire ordeal. Suggesting fun is not more important than the Super Bowl, which Brady delivered to Tampa in the 2020 season.

“This is the NFL, bro,” said Russo. “This should be competition at its highest level. Cut throat, bro. Win or go home, man. I love what Brady said here. Absolutely 1,000%.” [15:23]

Russo’s co-host former ESPN analyst Jonathan Coachman agreed. Coachman added that Brady’s mindset is that of a great leader and he did everything in his power to make his team win. He also added that football is Brady’s “first love” and not his ex-wife.

Baker Mayfield responds after Tom Brady’s comments

Brady’s comments on the broadcast made a lot of headlines in a short amount of time. After the Bucs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, Baker Mayfield was asked for a response to Brady’s comments. The 29-year-old QB, who arrived in Tampa Bay in 2023, defended himself stating his words were not in context.

“A lot of that was taken out of context. None of it was personal. … He did it his own way and that’s why he had seven rings,” said Mayfield.

Tom Brady is yet to respond to Mayfield’s new comments. On the other hand, Mayfield would want his game to do more of the talking as leads the Bucs to a 3-1 record.
