Could new Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. miss the start of the 2024 season? It seems like it could be a real possibility.
Beckham Jr. has been on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) since the start of the training camp. Beckham Jr.'s injury hasn't been disclosed.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to reporters on Monday about Beckham Jr.'s injury.
[07:11] "One thing I've learned about Odell is he is putting his best foot forward," McDaniel said. ... "There's been progression every week. But you know, I just know what he signed up for. What we signed up with him is for a development within the offense during the course of the season, to be at our best when the best is required.
"So I'm not rushing the process. I'm not worried about it because I know the intent is right on both sides, and the intention is to not have something holding him back."
There are no details about Beckham Jr.'s injury, but it's been enough to keep him sidelined this pre-season.
Odell Beckham Jr. will add an extra element to the Miami Dolphins offense this season
The rich got richer this off-season when the Miami Dolphins added wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency.
While OBJ isn't what he once was early on in his career, he's still a serviceable receiver. In his ninth season in the NFL last year, he caught 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
Beckham Jr. hasn't had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, but he wasn't brought into Miami to serve as the team's No. 1 wide receiver like the Ravens thought he'd be. Teams will have to focus on speedy wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, which should open up some opportunities for Beckham Jr. on offense.
The speedy Miami offense extends to their backfield, featured by Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane. Mostert led the league in rushing touchdowns while rushing for over 1,000 yards in his ninth season. Achane rushed for 800 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in 11 games played as a rookie.
