On Wednesday night, Foster Moreau announced that he will take an indefinite break from the game of football after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The Raiders' star tight end was testing the waters of free agency after spending four years in Las Vegas. Moreau underwent a physical, conducted by the New Orleans Saints and through the process learnt about his cancer diagnosis.

He took to Twitter to announce that he will be stepping away from the game to fight his new opponent, Cancer.

What is Hodgkin's Lymphoma?

According to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a condition wherein an abnormal change in the DNA of the white blood cell (called a lymphocyte) is observed. As a result, it transforms into a lymphoma cell. If left untreated, this can result in uncontrollable growth of these cancerous lymphocytes.

When a person is affected by Hodgkin's Lymphoma, their immune system becomes extremely weak, unable to guard against any form of infection. These Lymphoma cells usually develop in masses in the Lymph Nodes in the lymphatic system of our body.

Hodgkin's Lymphoma is one of the most curable cancers in the world. The treatment practices include mostly chemotheraphy and radiation therapy.

The Raiders star tight end wrote:

"Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me," Moreau tweeted. "During a routine physical conducted by the Saint’s medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football.

He continued:

"At this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance. That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!"

As Foster Moreau battles cancer, we at Sportskeeda, along with the NFL Community, send our prayers and wish him a speedy recovery.
